Focused On the Desert?

Until some time early next year I am deployed to the desert as part of my service as a Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force. I desperately miss the people, places, and things of Pittsburgh, but as they say “distance makes the heart grow fonder.” Even though I’m away from my favorite photographic subject, I continue to work on my photography. We’ve come to look forward to the annual Brighton Heights Chocolate House Tour. This year’s tour centered around the Shadeland Avenue neighborhood and included eight homes with a wide variety of features, history, and owners. Adam and Lindsey’s Wedding, April 2011

Erin and I were blessed to be a part of Adam and Lindsey’s incredible wedding weekend extravaganza in Cook Forest, PA. It’s one thing to photograph a wedding, it’s a completely different experience to photograph an entire weekend destination wedding in one of the most beautiful corners of Pennsylvania. It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of it. Adam and Lindsey are an amazing couple and if you’re in the Pittsburgh area I encourage you to get to know them by stopping by the Acoustic Moose Cafe in Bellevue (their cafe and my second office!).

Beautiful setting + Beautiful people = one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever been a part of.

A Few Interesting Finds Around Town

Went for a ride around the city the other day. Here are a few of my favorite images from the day. A few are from Lawrenceville and one’s from just down the road from my home in Bellevue. I love the eclectic feel of Pittsburgh. Every where you look there’s different style of architecture and design. It never gets boring wandering around the ‘Burgh!

Pirates 2011 Home Opener! Lets Go Bucs!

It’s been far too long since some “Pittsburgh” images have been uploaded. Well now that I think it’s safe to say that the snow is done and the ice is officially melted I can assure you I’ll be out and about this great city exploring for some new great photographs to share. Here are a few from my annual attendance at the Pirates Home Opener. It was a beautiful day for a game. Just a shame we lost so badly. I have a feeling this team will do something special, though. This may be the team that changes the tide for Pirates baseball. We shall see… Either way, it’s good to be back at the ballpark. Let’s Go Bucs!

A friend of mine is putting together a book of cookie recipes and asked me to photograph some of the “subjects.” Working out the fee for a shoot like this is pretty much a no brainer. Mmm!

Schuljak Portraits

The Schuljak family called me a week ago looking for some last minute Christmas portraits taken on Mt. Washington overlooking the Pittsburgh skyline. Flying in from Texas, the family was only going to be in Pittsburgh for a few days so there weren’t many options when it came to opportunities to shoot. We picked a day and prayed the weather would cooperate. Well, as you will see, the whether didn’t exactly cooperate, but I think it made the portraits that much more eye catching. What do you think?

Veterans’ Day Service, National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 11 November 2010

I had the pleasure of shooting the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies’ Veterans’ Day Service last week. This sacred space, located just south of Pittsburgh, is especially important to me not only because of the patriots who rest here, but because my own grandfather was buried in this cemetery. It was an absolutely beautiful day and a fantastic service. Congratulations to my friend and colleague Jon Meier for putting together such a reverent and special service honoring all who have sacrificially served our nation.
